Frequently Asked Questions About Adopting a Child from Kazakhstan

Infant Adoption Kazakhstan

Q: Is it possible to travel and not receive a child?

A: This is highly unlikely. Unlike other adoption programs, at Adoption House, Inc. a specific child is referred to you. You then find out information about that specific child. You will travel to adopt that child, and will bring that child home with you.

Q: How long does the adoption process really take?

A: Our agency prides itself in the efficiency with which we process applications and prepare our adoptive parents. While not every part of the adoption process is within Adoption House's control, a normal time frame from the beginning of the process until you receive your child is approximately one year. For persons who already have Immigration approval and a completed home study, the process can be significantly faster.

Q: Will my child be a U.S. citizen?

A: Yes, if your child is eligible for an IR-3 visa. An IR-3 visa means that you and your spouse both were present overseas to see the child before the adoption was finalized and that your child meets all other criteria for an orphan. For a single parent, your child will also be eligible for an IR-3 visa as long as all criteria are met. If this is the case, your child will automatically become a U.S. citizen once he/she enters U.S. territory. You will need to document your child’s U.S. citizenship status once your child is home with you by filing an N-600 Form with the CIS and/or by applying for a U.S. passport. It is critical that you do at least one of these, but we recommend doing both in the event one document is lost.

Q: Can Adoption House work with someone outside the state of Delaware?

A: Yes, Adoption House, Inc. works with families from all 50 states and U.S. families who reside outside of the United States including U.S. military families. For families who live outside Delaware and Pennsylvania, Adoption House, Inc. can help you to identify a local licensed home study agency to perform your home study. The study can then be forwarded to Adoption House, Inc. for processing.

Q: Can I adopt more than one child at the same time?

A: Yes. It is important to seriously consider adopting two children at once, but it is definitely allowed, and if it is the right situation for you we will be happy to assist you in the process. It is possible to return to Kazakhstan after adopting one child to adopt a 2nd or 3rd.

Q: How is the health of the children?

A: Overall, children from Kazakhstan are in generally good health, but there are exceptions. Some children suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome, attachment disorder, and developmental delay. Adoption House, Inc. has added an extra level of insurance for our couples and the children eligible for adoption through making available the review of the referral information by an international adoption medical expert.

Q: Are boys available for adoption?

A: Yes, both boys and girls are available for adoption. Recently however there appears to be a greater demand for girls, thus the waiting period for the referral of a girl under the age of one has increased.

Q: What age children are available?

A: Generally children have been as young as 6 months and as old as young teenagers. Adoption House has been successful in placing children very close to the ages requested by adoptive parents. Most of the children placed are between 7-10 months of age.
